Species Notes -
Hedera helix
English ivy, Hedera helix, has many uses all round the garden. It can be used to cover shady walls and trained to climb up or spread out along a low wall. Being evergreen, ivy is perfect for covering pergola poles, or creating a leafy backdrop beneath clematis and climbing roses. It’s a valuable wildlife plant, providing a late source of nectar and pollen for insects, and berries for birds in winter.
Genus Notes -
Hedera
Ivies inspire loyalty and affection like few other plants. With their fascinating shapes, unusual colors, and outstanding performance, Ivies have a well-deserved reputation as the workhorses of the garden.
Growing Notes -
English Ivy
The Hedera helix is easy to grow, hardy and versatile. It can tolerate full sun to shade, partial shade is best for hotter climates. Hedera helix Ivy likes moderate water, allowing the topsoil to start to dry between waterings. Because of the Ivy’s climbing and vining habits, they look great in a hanging basket, greenwall or trailing down a feature wall.
